Marie Maher loves to shoot in abandoned places—telling a story, capturing the essence of being in that space and time. Through her photography, she not only depicts the subject visually but also expresses emotions, memories and other intangible dimensions. She frequently explores mystical (some would say dark) themes and is fascinated by dreams and the transition from sleep to awakening. Her most successful pieces unfold on closer inspection and repeated viewings—the details are important. The palette she works with spans from purely black and white to full color and often the mid-range between, using a muted color palette or a toned black and white. “My hope is that these images will indeed resonate as much with you, the viewer, as I had intended when creating them.”
